In Puerto Rico, Old San Juan’s Hotel El Convento, built from a 17th century Carmelite convent, is scheduled to reopen Dec. 16 after a year of renovations. Amtrak shuttles between New York City’s Penn Station and Grand Central Terminal now run every half-hour rather than hourly, making it easier for Amtrak customers to make train-plane connections. From Grand Central, travelers board Carey Airport Express shuttles for either La Guardia ($10 one way) or Kennedy ($13) airports.
