Game Arcade Plan on Tonight’s Agenda

Share

A proposal to build a 6,000-square-foot game arcade that would charge admission willgo before the City Council tonight.

Action on the application for game room at the Laguna Hills Plaza Shopping Center on Alicia Parkway was delayed two weeks ago when city staff became aware of an error in a public hearing notice for the issue.

West Coast Amusement of Huntington Beach would charge $1.95 for admission to play about 170 video games.

About 50 games would be free with the rest costing at least five cents.

The arcade would operate daily from noon to midnight.

City staff wants the council to impose a condition to ensure that minors would not be allowed in the arcade during school hours and after 10 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday.

A security guard would be posted outside from 7 p.m. to closing.

The city would review the need for a guard after six months.

Some tenants have strongly opposed the arcade plan, saying it would bring a wave of unsupervised young people and their bikes and skateboards into the shopping plaza.

At least one neighbor of the shopping complex has written the city in opposition, citing potential problems with trash and security.
