Troops Abandon City to Rebels

From Times Wire Reports

Zairian troops have fled the last major government-held city in northeastern Zaire, destroying homes with rockets and looting the city before leaving it to rebel forces, residents said. Residents of Bunia, a trading center near the border with central Uganda, said the soldiers left without a fight. Rebels have encountered little resistance in their eight-week push north through eastern Zaire. They intend to press on to Kinshasa, the capital, about a thousand miles to the west.
