Net Income Jumps for the Cooper Cos.

IRVINE — The Cooper Cos., which provides specialty health-care products and psychiatric services, reported net income for of $16.6 million, or $1.41 a share, for the fiscal year ended Oct. 31, compared with net income of $115,000, or 1 cent a share, for the previous fiscal year. The 1995 figure included $1.5 million in restructuring costs. Revenue rose 12% to $109.1 million from $97.1 million.
For the fourth quarter, net income totaled $8.5 million, or 72 cents a share, which included a deferred tax benefit of $4.1 million. A year ago, the company lost $3.6 million, or 31 cents a share, including a $5-million charge primarily for settling a dispute with the former physicians’ group at Hampton Hospital of Hospital Group of America, the company’s psychiatric services business. Fourth-quarter revenue was up 26% to $31.2 million from $24.8 million.
