Riddick Bowe issued an ultimatum to manager Rock Newman on Saturday night.

“I’m not fighting him anymore, Newman,” Bowe said after winning a second straight fight over Andrew Golota on a disqualification.

This time, the disqualification for a blatant low blow came in the ninth round and not in the seventh, as it had July 11 at Madison Square Garden.

This time, in the Convention Center, there was no postfight riot, as there was in the Garden.

The rematch was a war that had a crowd of 12,013 in a continuous uproar but it was marred by the dirty tactics of Golota, who had victory in his grasp before he was disqualified with two seconds left in the ninth round.

Bowe, 235 pounds, was knocked down twice and Golota, 239, was knocked down once and cut over the left eye. He later was taken to a hospital with a suspected broken jaw.

Golota also was penalized for a low blow in the second round and for a deliberate head butt in the fourth. He was disqualified by referee Eddie Cotton after a left and right far below the belt line left Bowe writhing on the canvas in the ninth.

“We’re in the business to get hurt,” said Bowe, 28, a former undisputed heavyweight champion. “I had my faculties together and I thought it was just a matter of time.”

To ringsiders, however, after Bowe (40-1) was knocked down for the second time in the fifth round, it appeared just a matter of time before he was stopped. His heart, however, kept him up.

“Golota gave a good account of himself,” Bowe said, “but I’m not finished.”

After eight rounds, all three officials had Golota (28-2) ahead. Steve Weisfeld had it 75-71, Shafeeq Rashada 75-73 and Al Devito 74-72.

Earlier, Ray Mercer, who has lost some big fights, won one when he outpointed Tim Witherspoon and put himself into the heavyweight picture.
