Councilman Asks Christopher to Review LAPD Reforms
Saying the city Police Commission lacks credibility with the public, Los Angeles City Councilman Nate Holden on Monday asked former Secretary of State Warren Christopher to analyze how well the Police Department has done implementing reforms he recommended five years ago before the commission decides whether to renew Police Chief Willie L. Williams’ contract.
Christopher, a lawyer who lived in Los Angeles before joining the Clinton administration, led the commission that in 1991 presented a host of recommendations on diversity and use of force, among other topics, intended to improve the Los Angeles Police Department and its relationship with residents.
Christopher’s office in Washington did not returns calls for comment Monday.
