From Times Wire Reports

Three skiers died in an avalanche in the mountain wilderness near the Canadian resort of Whistler, British Columbia, about 75 miles north of Vancouver, police said. Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesman Peter Montague said three Germans--two men and one woman--died in the accident. Montague said the victims were in a party of 11 European tourists who had been transported by helicopter to ski on the Phalanx Glacier in the Coast Mountains just outside the Blackcomb Mountain ski area. The other members of the group have been located and a search has been called off, he said. Police will not release the names of the victims until their families are notified.
