3 Killed as Plane Crashes Into Home

A private twin-engine plane crashed into a home in an inner-city neighborhood in Birmingham, Ala., shortly after takeoff, killing all three people on board, officials said. The county coroner’s office was awaiting dental records to help identify the three victims. The pilot of the Piper PA-34, struggling to keep the plane aloft with one of its engines out, put in an emergency call to air traffic controllers five minutes before the aircraft crashed.
