Same-Sex Marriage

Re “Warped View of What’s Fit as Family Life,” by Robert Scheer, Column Left, Dec. 10:

The ability of homosexual parents to raise children should not be the basis for arguing for or against same-sex marriages. Those are separate issues. The argument for same-sex marriages must include discussion on whether government has the right to redefine the institution of marriage, which is as old as the history of mankind.

Civil and criminal law is based on moral standards. We define marriage on moral standards. If we allow those standards to shift with political and social currents, then anything goes. Redefining well-established social morals and social institutions such as marriage and the family is devastating to our society and working against the health and welfare of our children.
