Priest Detained After Upbraiding Clinton
A National Clergy Council official said he had been detained by the Secret Service after admonishing President Clinton at a Christmas Eve service about his veto of a late-term abortion ban. The Rev. Rob Schenck, general secretary to the council, said Secret Service agents blocked him from leaving the Washington National Cathedral for about 15 minutes and rifled his pockets for identification after he had confronted Clinton, who took communion at the late-night service with his wife and daughter. Schenck said that while he had been waiting to receive communion, he had leaned over the altar rail toward the president’s nearby seat and quietly told Clinton: “God will hold you to account, Mr. President.”
