CASTAIC LAKE--Striped bass picking up. Erik Stepanek, 13 stripers from 6-13 pounds, on live shad at 30-40 feet. Largemouth bass fair. Mike Woernley, Canyon Country, 10-4, 8-0 and 6-8 bass, on water dogs in upper lake. Gary Harrison, Castaic, and Mark Munoz, Chino, 15-4, 13-6 and 12-4 bass, on crawdad and water dogs on lower lake.

LAKE PIRU--Trout fair in marina and dam, caught mostly on Power Bait, Rapalas and Needlefish lures. Largemouth bass slow, most being caught on grubs and night crawlers fished off points at east end and dam. Catfish active at north inlet.

PYRAMID LAKE--Al Javadi, Canoga Park, three stripers totaling 17-5, trolling lures toward dam. Mark Graves, North Hollywood, 6-0 striper, on Rat-L-Trap lure at Yellow Bar. Crappie fair at docks. Catfish good in marina. Some largemouth and smallmouth bass being caught along shoreline.

LAKE CACHUMA--Largemouth bass best bet, biting on plastic worms and night crawlers at 25 feet. Red-ear perch fair on night crawler pieces fished outside Cachuma Bay. Trout slow.

LAKE CASITAS--Trout fair after recent plant at Santa Ana Ramp. Catfish stocking scheduled for next Tuesday. Catfish bite already fair to good throughout lake from 10-90 feet. Joe Sylvestri, Ojai, nine catfish totaling 122 pounds, on mackerel. Largemouth bass slow.

CORONA LAKE--Some limits of trout, lots of lunkers. Power Bait and Roostertail lures getting most. Steve Stevenson, Riverside, 11-6 trout, on Power bait from shore.

SANTA ANA RIVER LAKES--The place for large trout. Kevin Saum, Anaheim, lake-record 20-pound, 1-ounce rainbow, on Power Bait at spillway. Catch was made on two-pound test line and, if approved by the International Game Fish Assn., would become a line-class world record. Dean Hanson, Fullerton, 17-9 trout, on Power Bait at Bubble Hole. The list goes on.

IRVINE LAKE--Heavy holiday plants resulted in excellent trout bite. San Chang, Coto de Caza, 11-4 trout, on inflated night crawler at the hump. Largemouth bass fair in Sierra Cove, biting on plastics. Some catfish.

LAGUNA NIGUEL LAKE--Several limits of trout, thanks to heavy holiday stocking. Son Han Kion, Los Angeles, landed a 10-8 on a cane pole with a hook tipped with chartreuse Power Bait.

LAKE SKINNER--Striped bass remain active at inlet and Ramp 2, biting on anchovies, plugs and water dogs. Tom Urmin, Murrieta, 16-12 striped bass, on water dog at marina buoy line. Crappie fair off marina point, biting on mini-jigs and mealworms. Trout fair at Ramp 2 and east end.

LAKE PERRIS--Largemouth bass fair. Lee Tittman, Riverside, 9-4 bass, on crawdad at Sail Cove. A few others in this size range. Other species slow.

SAN DIEGO CITY LAKES--Miramar and Murray: Strictly trout, with occasional limits but no big fish. Power Bait best bet. San Vicente: Largemouth bass best bet, but fishing is slow for everything.


MORRO BAY (Virg's Landing)--44 anglers (2 boats): 2 ling cod, 50 red rock cod, 340 rock cod, 60 assorted rockfish.

AVILA BEACH--24 anglers (1 boat): 240 rock cod, 1 ling cod, 3 petrole sole.

SANTA BARBARA (Sea Landing)--25 anglers (1 boat): 2 calico bass, 34 sand bass, 2 sculpin, 27 ocean whitefish, 35 rockfish, 9 sheephead, (Hornet's Landing)--20 anglers (1 boat): 6 calico bass, 28 sand bass, 29 rockfish, 6 sheephead, 3 sculpin, 6 whitefish, 1 mackerel.

VENTURA--28 anglers (1 boat): 170 rockfish, 5 sculpin, 3 sheephead, 6 whitefish.

OXNARD (Cisco's)--113 anglers (5 boats): 21 lingcod, 10 cow cod, 1 halibut, 105 red snapper, 135 rock cod, 393 rockfish, 16 sculpin, 30 sheephead, 310 whitefish, 4 golden eye, 2 cabezon.

PORT HUENEME--20 anglers (2 boats): 92 rockfish, 62 whitefish, 15 sculpin, 11 sand bass, 10 sheephead, 2 calico bass, 1 lingcod, 1 blue perch.

MARINA DEL REY--100 anglers (4 boats): 2 halibut, 100 sculpin, 12 sand bass, 205 rock cod, 2 lingcod, 6 red snapper.

REDONDO--91 anglers (4 boats): 12 whitefish, 7 calico bass, 24 sand bass, 1 black seabass (released), 2 halibut, 14 sheephead, 94 blue perch, 12 blacksmith perch, 132 sculpin, 100 mackerel, 93 rockfish.

SAN PEDRO (L.A. Harbor Sportfishing)--50 anglers (2 boats): 25 sand bass, 8 calico bass, 30 whitefish, 19 sculpin, 12 rockfish, 1 cabezon, 12 perch, 3 black seabass (released). (22nd St. Landing)--32 anglers (1 boat): 1 white seabass, 8 calico bass, 4 sand bass, 65 sculpin, 3 whitefish, 2 sheephead.

LONG BEACH--49 anglers (3 boats): 8 calico bass, 25 sand bass, 70 whitefish, 41 sheephead, 186 perch, 38 sculpin, 43 rockfish, 80 rockcod. (Belmont Pier)--14 anglers (1 boat): 36 perch, 145 rockfish, 2 sheephead, 17 whitefish.

NEWPORT BEACH (Newport Landing)--51 anglers (3 boats): 131 sculpin, 46 rockfish, 7 sand bass, 1 sheephead, 31 whitefish, 72 blue perch, 290 mackerel. (Davey's Locker)--44 anglers (2 boats): 5 calico bass, 10 sand bass, 20 sculpin, 12 sheephead, 31 rockfish, 219 mackerel, 104 perch.

DANA WHARF--39 anglers (2 boats): 19 calico bass, 32 sand bass, 8 mackerel, 31 rockfish, 1 sculpin, 2 sheephead.

OCEANSIDE--60 anglers (3 boats): 27 calico bass, 91 sand bass, 1 halibut, 119 sculpin, 7 sheephead, 151 rockfish, 30 black perch, 162 mackerel.
