KCRW Marathon of ‘Selected Shorts’

KCRW-FM (89.9) kicks off the new year with a marathon presentation of “Selected Shorts at the Getty,” recorded readings of classic and contemporary short stories and other works by stage and screen actors, on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Schedule: 9-10:30 a.m.: “A Continuity of Parks,” by Julio Cortazar, read by Alan Rachins; “The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse,” by William Saroyan, read by Stephen Lang; “The Man Who Liked Dickens,” by Evelyn Waugh, read by Leonard Nimoy.
10:30 a.m.-noon: “Gone Fishing,” by Tereze Gluck, read by Roxanne Hart; “The Shoe God,” by Mary Flanagan, read by Christine Pickles; “The Swimmer,” by John Cheever, read by John Rubinstein.
Noon-1:30 p.m.: “Janus,” by Ann Beattie, read by Fionnula Flanagan; “Raymond’s Run,” by Toni Cade Bambara, read by Hattie Winston; “The Falls,” by George Saunders, read by Rene Auberjonois.
1:30-3 p.m., stories from the “Odyssey”: “In the One-Eyed Giant’s Cave,” read by Thomas Gibson; “The Bewitching Queen of Aeaea,” read by Joanna Gleason; “Penelope and Her Guest” and “The Great Rooted Bed,” read by Isaiah Sheffer.
