Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center has been named one of the nation’s 100 top hospitals for service to patients in an annual study by industry consultant William M. Mercer Inc.’s Health Care Provider Consulting Practice and HCIA Inc., a health-care information services company.

The hospital was one of nine in California and the only one in Orange County to make the 1996 list. Last year, Mercer and HCIA included only four California hospitals in the ranking.

“Many hospitals have refocused their business [and] have shown demonstrable service improvement while cutting costs,” said Dr. Kenia Casarreal, head of William M. Mercer Inc.’s western health-care provider consulting practice. “Hospitals were selected for the list based on quality of care, efficient delivery of services and superior financial performance,” she added.
