Kidd Out 4-6 Weeks, but Suns Beat Kings

With Jason Kidd put on the injured list earlier in the day--he’ll miss four to six weeks--Kevin Johnson reasserted himself.

Johnson scored 12 of his 28 points in the first quarter and added 10 assists in a 100-88 victory over Sacramento as the Suns’ dominance of the Kings continued Monday night at Phoenix.

Danny Manning added 23 points for the Suns, who have beaten the Kings 21 consecutive times at home since Jan. 30, 1988.

San Antonio 95, Vancouver 88--Vernon Maxwell scored a season-high 23 points to lift the injury-riddled Spurs at Vancouver.

Starting in place of injured Vinny Del Negro, Maxwell scored 16 first-half points as the Spurs ended a three-game losing streak.

Boston 104, Denver 102--Rick Fox made a 15-foot jumper with less than a second remaining, and the Celtics won their first road game of the season, with David Wesley getting 25 points in the victory over the Nuggets at Denver.

Boston was the last NBA team to secure a road victory.

Chicago 81, Indiana 79--Michael Jordan scored 28 points and held Reggie Miller to five-of-18 shooting as the Bulls rallied to beat the Pacers at Chicago.

Houston 99, Seattle 91--Charles Barkley had 25 points and 14 rebounds and led a fourth-quarter rally that enabled the Rockets to end a six-game home losing streak to the Sonics.

The Sonics made 14 of their first 19 shots (73.6%) and led 34-21, but the Rockets led, 57-53, at halftime and, 79-73, after three quarters.

Detroit 97, Orlando 85--Otis Thorpe had a season-high 22 points to go with nine rebounds, and the Pistons continued their dominance at home by beating the usually troublesome Magic at Auburn Hills, Mich.

The victory was only Detroit’s second in its last eight meetings with the Magic.

New York 98, New Jersey 86--The Knicks became the fourth NBA team to reach 2,000 victories, getting strong play from guards Allan Houston, John Starks and Chris Childs at New York.

The Knicks, one of the league’s original franchises, joined the Celtics, Lakers and 76ers as the only teams with 2,000 victories.

Cleveland 108, Minnesota 96--The Cavaliers bombarded Minnesota with 14 three-point shots, then survived a late shooting barrage by James Robinson that ended the visiting Timberwolves’ bid for a franchise-best, five-game winning streak.

Charlotte 101, Washington 92--Glen Rice scored a season-high 38 points, and had a crucial three-point play down the stretch as the Hornets extended their domination of the Bullets at Landover, Md.
