Cocaine Probe

Re "Waters Goes to Nicaragua in Probe of Alleged Cocaine-Contra Links," Jan. 3:

Wouldn't it be a far more productive use of her time and our money if Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Los Angeles) would do an extensive probe of why the people in her district were so vulnerable to the use of cocaine? I have seen no reports of CIA agents standing on street corners with guns to people's heads forcing them to use cocaine.

Drug addiction is an insidious disease. The answers are in prevention and treatment. What needs probing is the lack of effective programs for either of these.
