People / Spotlight on achievers

William M. Vega, chancellor of the Coast Community College District, was named recently to the board of trustees at Chapman University.

"There aren't many individuals who better understand the needs of students and of institutions of higher education in Southern California than Dr. Vega," said Chapman President James Doti.

"We will look to his public education expertise and academic experience as we continue to move toward gaining national recognition of our university."

Vega has been district chancellor of Coast since 1993. In his 24-year career, he has been president of Coastline College and administrator and instructor at El Camino College in Torrance, Compton College, Contra Costa College in San Pablo and Los Angeles City College.
