Race Pledges Will Go to Lung Assn.

Orange County racers and walkers interested in helping fight lung disease are invited to participate in the Southern California Half Marathon and 5K on Saturday in Irvine.

More than 4,000 people are expected to take to the streets for the race and post-event activities.

Participants can help in the battle against emphysema, lung cancer, asthma, tuberculosis and other lung diseases by gathering pledges for the American Lung Assn. of Orange County.

Race-day registration starts at 6 a.m., followed by the 2-kilometer race for children, half marathon and 5-kilometer races. The entry fee is $24 for the half marathon, $22 for the 5K and $17 for the 2K race.

A total of $6,000 in prize money will be awarded.

Proceeds from registration fees will go toward the Woodbridge High School Athletic Boosters, which is co-sponsoring the event with the American Lung Assn. of Orange County. All races will start and finish at Woodbridge Village Shopping Center at Barranca Parkway and Lake Road. For race information or a pledge form, call (714) 835-5864.
