Daffodil Deliverers Are Needed

Share

The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to deliver flower bouquets during its annual Daffodil Days fund-raiser March 17 and 18.

Drivers will help hand out about 250,000 daffodils at businesses, schools, homes and hospitals. Participants purchase flowers for family members and friends, and make anonymous gifts to cancer patients.

Organizers said they chose bright yellow daffodils over other flowers because they symbolize hope as the first flower of spring. The event both raises money for the society and boosts the spirits of cancer patients.

Proceeds are used for research, education and treatment.

In 1996, Californians contributed $2 million toward the drive. About $240,000 of that came from Orange County. The countywide goal this year is $250,000.

Volunteers will only deliver anonymous gifts and orders of $50 or more. Smaller orders may be picked up at the Pond at Anaheim, the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa and the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop in Laguna Niguel.
