EPA to Delay Tougher Air Rules

Bowing to pressure from states, the Environmental Protection Agency has agreed to allow more time for comment on controversial regulations that tighten clean air standards. The standards, formally proposed in November, are expected to be hotly debated in Congress and are already upsetting states where dozens of cities would fall out of compliance under the tighter standards. In a letter to governors, EPA Administrator Carol Browner said she wants to extend the public comment period for 60 days.
