Mark A. Resnik; Executive With Grocery Chain

Mark A. Resnik, 49, general counsel and an original partner in the Yucaipa Companies, the investment firm that controls the Ralphs grocery store chain. A graduate of UCLA’s School of Law, Resnik played an important role in Yucaipa’s acquisition of Ralphs in 1995 and in the merger with the Food 4 Less and Boys stores to create the largest grocery company in Southern California. He also was active in supporting the Democratic Party, the UCLA Law School and such organizations as the Jewish Federation, UCLA’s Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation and the Museum of Tolerance. He is survived by his wife, Shelley, and daughter, Jennifer. A memorial service is scheduled for noon today at Mount Sinai Memorial Park. On Friday of cancer at his home in Encino.
