More than 300 advertising agencies and individuals have entered the Ventura County Ad Club’s creative awards competition.

Although winning an award may be the name of the game for these public relations businesses, even those who don’t will get a nice PR boost just by being part of the competition.

This year, for the first time, a sampling of the advertising work of all entrants will be placed on CD-ROM and made available for sale to members of the county’s business community.

In past years, only winning entries were compiled into book form for distribution at an awards ceremony, but not for general distribution.

“It is a way for businesses to look around at who’s out there and who’s offering what,” said Daniel Rosing, president of the nearly 25-year-old advertising club.

The club has about 50 individual members from throughout the county and about 30 corporate memberships.

“The idea is to get this to businesses out there who are looking for somebody to help them with advertising and marketing but who don’t really know where to start,” Rosing said. “I think the CD-ROM is exciting because it gives [advertisers] a chance to take what they consider their best work and show it off for somebody who might want those services.”

The CD--ROM will sell for $4.95.

Ventura County’s advertising awards competition for print, television and radio will culminate with an awards banquet March 15 at the Doubletree Hotel in Ventura.

Winners in the more than 70 categories will advance to the American Advertising Federation’s district competition covering Southern California and Nevada.
