Power Outage Affects 2,200 Homes

About 2,200 households here lost power Monday evening after Southern California Edison underground equipment malfunctioned, a spokesman for the utility said.

Edison crews were working into the night to locate the equipment failure that triggered the 5 p.m. outage in an area surrounding Saddleback Ranch Road, Edison spokesman Kevin Kelley said.

By 7 p.m., crews had rerouted the electrical supply flow in the area to restore power to about 1,450 of the homes, Kelley said. Repair crews could not estimate when the remaining 750 homes would have restored service, he said.
