Database software power Oracle Corp. will license financially troubled Borland International Inc.’s computer programming languages and software development tools to develop Internet applications, the companies said. Borland Chief Executive Del Yocam called the deal a big boost for his company. “We believe this licensing agreement is the start of a new beginning,” Yocam said. Redwood City-based Oracle and Scotts Valley-based Borland declined to give any financial details of their pact, under which Oracle will license Borland’s Java and C++ development tools in Oracle’s current and future products. The announcement was made before markets closed. Oracle shares rose 50 cents to close at $39.875, while Borland climbed 12.5 cents to close at $6.56, both on the Nasdaq. Borland, which has been mired in financial losses and a corporate restructuring, said last month it hoped to be profitable in fiscal 1998, beginning in April.
