Research Engineers Inc.: The Yorba Linda engineering software company posted a third-quarter net loss of $508,000, or 9 cents a share, which included a pretax charge of $715,000 to write off acquired research and development. A year ago, Research Engineers earned $82,000, or 2 cents a share, including a $52,000 charge. Revenue for the quarter ended Dec. 31 rose 42% to $2.7 million from $1.9 million.

The company, which completed an initial public offering in July, recorded a net loss of $80,000, or 2 cents a share, for the nine-month period, contrasted with net income of $210,000, or 5 cents a share, for the first three quarters of the previous year. Revenue increased 52% to $7.3 million from $4.8 million.
