Karpa Suffers Broken Hand

Share

Defenseman David Karpa broke a bone in his right hand when he was slashed by a New York Islander player at the end of the first period. Rookie Nikolai Tsulygin probably will take Karpa’s spot in the lineup tonight against Toronto.

The break is so small it’s possible Karpa won’t need to wear a cast. He will return to Anaheim today and is expected to be out up to three weeks.

The Ducks also played without forwards Ted Drury, who has a broken left wrist, and Kevin Todd, who missed his second consecutive game because of tendinitis in his left elbow.

Enforcer Shawn Antoski underwent a successful hernia operation at Anaheim Memorial Hospital. Antoski, who was injured in a Nov. 20 game against the Islanders, is expected to be sidelined eight to 12 weeks. . . . Joe Sacco’s assist on Paul Kariya’s second-period goal was his 100th point as a Duck.
