Safety Components International Inc.: The Costa Mesa manufacturer of automotive air bags and supplier of defense products reported third quarter net income of $1.4 million, or 28 cents a share, an 8% gain from the $1.3 million, or 25 cents a share, for the prior-year period. Sales for the quarter ended Dec. 31 increased 1% to $24.7 million from $24.4 million. Net income for the nine-month period declined 8% to $3.4 million, or 68 cents a share, from $3.7 million, or 75 cents a share, for the same period a year ago. Sales dropped 19% to $59.7 million from $73.4 million.
