Defying Evacuation

Share

I am writing in response to “Going to the Dogs: A Civics Lesson on Coping With Cops,” by Jim Hollander (Cityscapes, Feb. 1).

Come on Jim, did you leave your common sense in the movie theater? You knew why your street was cordoned off and you ignored the yellow tape and drove past it. The officer told you to turn around. That’s when you decided to get out of the car and argue. If this wasn’t enough, the officer told you to leave the area and what did you do? You ignored him and kept walking. After repeated examples of defiance, the officer warned you that another step would constitute resisting arrest. I can’t believe that you would take one more step and then wonder why he is handcuffing you.

They blocked off the area for your own safety, Jim. I know you are not promoting the social philosophy of anarchy, right? Get a life and listen to the police officers. They are the people who help to keep your house from being burglarized while you are at the movies.
