From Times Wire Reports

The Air Force is sending about 30 warplanes to the Persian Gulf nation of Qatar to help enforce the “no-fly” zone over southern Iraq, the Pentagon said. The Pentagon did not say how long the aircraft will stay in the region. It described the movement as part of an “air expeditionary force” that bolsters U.S. forces for a time and permits training with friendly military forces in the region. Last summer, 34 aircraft were sent to Qatar and remained for several months as part of an air expeditionary force. Similar forces were sent to Jordan in 1996 and Bahrain in 1995.
