Sea Kings Trip Up Sailors With Tie

Andy Mickler of Corona del Mar scored two goals as the Sea Kings tied eighth-ranked Newport Harbor, 2-2, in a Sea View League boys’ soccer game Friday at Kaiser School.

Jesse Cortez and Garrett Jansma each scored for Newport Harbor (7-3-2, 4-1-3), which outshot Corona del Mar, 31-7.

Mickler scored on a penalty kick in the first half and on a free kick in the second half for Corona del Mar (7-7-9, 0-3-5).

Jansma scored on a penalty kick in the 47th minute to tie it, 2-2, for Newport Harbor.

In other league games:

Woodbridge 1, Irvine 0--Shane Johnson scored the winning goal on a volley off a corner kick by Jeff Jensen with one minute left for Woodbridge (13-3-5, 4-1-3), which is sixth-ranked in the county. Doug Allan recorded his seventh shutout of the season, fourth in league.

Santa Margarita 2, El Toro 1--Tim Pierce scored the winning goal off an assist by Nick Sparks in the 50th minute for Santa Margarita (11-7-3, 3-2-3). Ryan Coiner tied the score with five minutes left in the first half for Santa Margarita.

In the Century League:

El Modena 2, Foothill 0--Sergio Viero posted his 11th shutout of the season, fifth in league, for El Modena (13-2-3, 6-1-1). Martin Carrington scored the winning goal, his 14th of the season, seven minutes into the game. John Chavez scored his fifth goal in the last six games in the second half. Mauro Barron had two assists.

In the Empire League:

Cypress 4, Kennedy 1--Mike Meza, Vince Cardoza, J.R. Brundage and Steve Ponce each scored for Cypress, which trailed at halftime, 1-0.

El Dorado 3, Century 0--Nate Barnard had three saves for host El Dorado (18-4-4, 6-1-1). It was the 10th shutout of the season for Barnard and the 15th for El Dorado.

Loara 3, Katella 0--Eduardo Hernandez scored three goals and Jose Sanchez had three saves in his ninth shutout for Loara (8-8-4, 5-2-1).

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 2, Buena Park 0--James Oakden scored a second half goal, his fifth of the week, for Fullerton (8-8-3, 3-2-2).

Sonora 1, La Habra 0--Nathan Ballard scored on a header off a corner kick by Greg Dobkin with five minutes left for visiting Sonora (7-9-2, 4-2-2).

Sunny Hills 3, Troy 1--Tom Kim scored two goals for Sunny Hills (11-8-3, 7-0-1) to clinch the league title.

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 4, La Quinta 2--Javier Castaneda scored two goals for Garden Grove (6-10-2, 4-5-1).

Pacifica 3, Santiago 2--Adrian Arjonilla scored two goals for Pacifica (10-4-3, 8-0-3).

In the Golden West League:

Ocean View 3, Westminster 0--Clay Monroe had two saves in his seventh shutout for Ocean View (8-11-1, 4-5).

In the Olympic League:

Orange Lutheran 3, Downey Calvary Chapel 0--Eric Van De Zilver scored a goal and had two assists for league-leading Orange Lutheran (16-2-2, 9-0-1).

In the Orange League:

Brea Olinda 1, Anaheim 0--Ryan Flores scored 13 minutes into the game off an assist from Anthony Barajas for Brea Olinda (12-2-5, 5-1-2).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Estancia 2, Aliso Niguel 1--Cesar Terrones scored twice in the first half for Estancia (15-4, 6-2).

University 2, Costa Mesa 2--Carlos Loza had 12 saves to help Costa Mesa (0-7-1 in league) rally from a two-goal deficit.

In the South Coast League:

Mater Dei 4, Trabuco Hills 2--Chris Hulgreen scored a second-half goal for visiting Mater Dei (17-1-3, 5-1-2), ranked second in the county and No. 1 in Division II.

Mission Viejo 1, Dana Hills 0--Nick Gilliam scored with 10 minutes left in the game.

San Clemente 1, Capistrano Valley 0--Zach Miederhoff scored off Shawn Tracht’s assist with only two minutes remaining for visiting San Clemente (13-3-6, 4-3-1).

Capistrano Valley (15-5-3, 4-3-1) is ranked sixth in the county.

In the Sunset League:

Esperanza 1, Huntington Beach 0--Josh Deits scored with nine minutes left in the game for third-ranked Esperanza (21-2-1, 7-1).

Fountain Valley 4, Edison 2--Ryan Futagaki had two goals for fourth-ranked Fountain Valley (15-3-2, 7-1).
