Motorcyclist Fatally Injured in Collision
A 31-year-old man died late Saturday after he apparently ran his motorcycle into the rear of a utility vehicle.
Walter E. Diaz died at UCI Medical Center of head injuries.
Kenneth Michael Sommerfield, 41, told police he was driving his black 1991 Ford Explorer just before midnight in the northbound lane of South Beach Boulevard near Ball Road when he slowed to allow the vehicle in front of him to turn into a driveway.
Sommerfield told police that as he slowed, he felt something smash into the rear of his vehicle. When he got out to check, Sommerfield discovered that Diaz, who was riding a 1991 Honda motorcycle, had rear-ended him.
Police are investigating.
