Zoo to Throw Party on Its 45th Birthday

The Santa Ana Zoo will celebrate its 45th birthday March 1 with free ice cream and a number of special activities.

Each visitor to the zoo that day will receive a free ice cream cone. Children’s activities will include face painting, arts and crafts, and performances by a musical group.

Zoo docents will recognize animals who have been born at the zoo, and children younger than 12 who bring handmade birthday cards for the zoo will receive free gifts.

The goal is to “help us celebrate what a special place the zoo is,” said Charlotte Stripland, program coordinator for the fund-raising group Friends of the Zoo.

The birthday celebration will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the zoo, 1801 E. Chestnut Ave. Admission will be $3.50 for adults, $1.50 for children 3 to 12 years old, and free for those 2 or younger.
