The Maui Pineapple Co. is opening up its 3,500-acre plantation on the island’s western side for public tours for the first time.
Starting Feb. 24, visitors can observe harvesting, which occurs virtually year-round; learn about the history of the industry and the company, which dates to the early 1900s; and pick a souvenir pineapple. The 2 1/2-hour tours will be led by veteran plantation workers.
The vans will depart at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday from the Kapalua Logo Shop near the Kapalua Bay Hotel. The cost is $19 per person. Reservations: (808) 669-8088.
