Axil to Make Windows-Based NT Servers

Times Staff and Wire Reports

Axil Computer Inc. said it will make a line of high-end computer servers based on Microsoft Corp.’s Windows NT software standard. Until now, Axil, a Santa Clara-based unit of Korea’s Hyundai Corp., has made computers based on the Unix software standard. By making machines based on Windows NT, Axil hopes to participate in a more rapidly growing market, the company said. Axil makes servers, the type of computers that store and shuffle information through computer networks. Its machines have been based on microprocessors and software from Sun Microsystems Inc., a maker of mid-range Unix computer systems.
