Share

The Orange Empire Chorus, a nonprofit singing group composed of dozens of barbershop quartets, is auditioning new singers tonight for its annual spring show in April.

Members of the all-male chorus, which is one of four Orange County chapters of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, perform shows to raise money for charity and for music education programs in local schools.

Society membership in the United States and Canada is more than 34,000, and there are affiliates in Australia, Germany, New Zealand, South Africa, Sweden, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, Japan, Saudi Arabia and parts of the former Soviet Union.

The group’s goal is to keep alive the four-part, a cappella, close harmony style and help good causes while doing so, said Art Clayton, the local chorus’ quartet activity coordinator.

The spring show will be April 11 and 12 at Plummer Auditorium, Chapman Avenue and Lemon Street, Fullerton. The production marks the group’s 40th anniversary.

Singers may audition at 8 p.m. today at Parks Junior High School, 1710 Rosecrans Ave., Fullerton.
