Deserving Vets Offered Help Collecting Medals
For anyone who earned a military medal but never collected it, a workshop Feb. 22 will outline how to receive the honor.
Members of the Rudy Hernandez Medal of Honor Southern California chapter of the 11th Airborne Division Assn. will share stories about their military service and tell how to investigate and obtain the medals that they or their relatives never got.
The free public workshop will be at 8 a.m. in the Family History Center, 674 S. Yorba, Orange.
Rudy Garcia, president of the Army airborne unit, said many people don’t know that they earned medals and should find out because “they deserve them.”
His organization is dedicated to raising awareness among Latinos and other minorities who served in the military and helping them to receive due recognition.
