Obituaries : George Harrington; Insurance Salesman

George H. Harrington, an insurance salesman in Ventura for 30 years, has died at the age of 80.

Harrington, who died Sunday, was born in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 20, 1916. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1938 with a degree in forestry. A pilot, Harrington served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II, flying cargo to China, Burma and India.

When he returned to civilian life, Harrington settled in Ventura, which he had come to like during his pilot’s training in Oxnard. He became a Farmers Insurance agent and ran his own agency for 30 years.

Harrington is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen; a son, Craig Harrington; a daughter, Gayle Harrington; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.


Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park in Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home, Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to a favorite charity.
