Master’s Hurdles Roadblock Against Azusa Pacific, 65-55

It took 13 trips, but The Master’s College women’s basketball team finally got a victory at Azusa Pacific, defeating the Cougars, 65-55, on Tuesday night.

Elizabeth Hansell scored 17 points and Kim DeVries added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Mustangs (17-10), who held Azusa Pacific (14-12) to a season-low 24% shooting.

Master’s first-ever victory at Azusa Pacific ended a 12-game losing streak to the Cougars. It was only the Mustangs’ second victory ever against the Cougars, the last one coming in 1991 at Master’s.

In another women’s game:

Pomona-Pitzer 76, Cal Lutheran 53--Anita Richardson scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Regals (12-10, 5-5) in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at Cal Lutheran.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Ventura 8, Compton 2--Marc Fallini had three hits for the Pirates (9-3), including a two-run single in the fifth inning that broke open a nonconference game at Ventura.

Jeremy Pierce added a home run in the three-run sixth that gave Ventura a 6-2 lead.

Glendale 8, Harbor 2--Successive two-run doubles by Karl Castro and Jared Sandler highlighted a five-run 10th inning by the Vaqueros (10-5) in a nonconference game at Harbor.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Cal State Northridge d. La Verne, 15-10, 15-7, 15-8--Collin Smith had 12 kills and 11 digs for the Matadors (6-4) in a nonconference match at Northridge.

Pepperdine d. Cal State San Bernardino, 15-5, 15-3, 15-12--Keven Barnett had 20 kills and seven digs to lead the Waves (7-2) in a nonconference match at Pepperdine.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Chatsworth 3, Granada Hills 0--Jackie Fodor scored two goals and Pam George had two assists for the Chancellors (14-1, 9-0 in conference play) in a Coastal Valley Conference match at Granada Hills (7-5-2, 5-3-2).

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Sherman Oaks CES 67, Foshay 32--Taaj Muhammad had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Knights (17-5, 11-1), who clinched a tie for the Magnet League title at Foshay.
