More than $75,000 in diamond rings was stolen from a Northridge Fashion Center jewelry store Tuesday evening, police said.
Police are looking for five Latinos in the theft.
Sgt. Bruce Heschong of the Los Angeles Police Department said three men and two women between the ages of 25 and 30 walked into a crowded Kevin’s Jewelers at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and distracted salespeople with questions. Meanwhile, one member of the group opened a display case holding more than 20 diamond rings, police said.
Heschong said security cameras caught the activity on videotape.
After taking the rings, the group left the store and walked out of the mall, Heschong said, and fled in a bronze Pontiac Grand Am.
Police said the salespeople did not notice the rings were missing until the thieves had left the mall. “These guys don’t sound like first-timers,” Heschong said. “They seem pretty slick.”
