Wilson Wary of a King Counterpunch

Duck-King games are always important to the fans, but this one is especially important for the teams, with neither in position to make the playoffs with less than two months left in the season.

“We’ve got to be ready because the [Kings] got embarrassed against Phoenix,” Coach Ron Wilson said the day after the Kings’ 6-1 loss. “We can’t assume the Kings that showed up against Phoenix are going to show up against us. They could view this as their last chance, their last punch at the bag because they could be potentially eight points out of 10th, and 12 points out of a playoff spot. It’s not their last chance if they win, but the prospect if they lose is they’re too far behind with too many teams in it and too few games left.”

Teemu Selanne practiced Wednesday after missing Tuesday’s workout because of stomach flu but said he felt confident he’ll be able to play against the Kings tonight. “I think I’ll be OK,” said Selanne, who felt a little “queasy” during practice but worked on getting his legs back. . . . Center Sean Pronger tried to skate but couldn’t because of pain from an abdominal strain. He said he’ll try again at the morning skate.
