* Re “Surviving a Corporate Exodus,” Feb. 13:

You can print articles trumpeting the return of the area’s economy until there are no trees left on this planet. It won’t change the fact that with the massive reductions in the aerospace industry, there are not, and probably never will be, enough high-paying jobs to bring back the level of growth that the region experienced during the 1980s. The article cites the $40,000 that a computer animator can earn. Big deal. Unless this person marries another computer animator, he or she had better be prepared for a lifetime of renting in Southern California.

The entertainment industry pulls in billions of dollars of business around the world, as do the aerospace and automotive industries. The difference is that the money does not get distributed to nearly as many people.
