Lernon and Vernon are turning 90.

The Chaney twins have spent more than half a century in Hawthorne. They will be joined at the Del Aire Assembly of God on Sunday by about 200 friends and family who have traveled from 10 states and from as far as London to wish them a happy birthday.

Since coming to California from Breckenridge, Texas, in 1940, the identical twins have lived nearly identical lives.

They attended Texas A & M University together, where they both studied engineering, and each got jobs at Rockwell International. They both retired in 1962 after working for the aerospace giant for 32 years.

Both married and each had four children. Lernon had three daughters and a son and Vernon had three sons and a daughter. Altogether, the twins have 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren with another on the way.

The family has spent several months planning the birthday bash/family reunion that will celebrate the Chaney brothers’ lives.

“This gave us a chance to honor them,” said Mary Lou Henkel, Vernon’s daughter. “It will be a very special occasion.”
