Frank J. Delfino; Actor Played Hamburglar

Frank J. Delfino, 85, diminutive actor who portrayed the Hamburglar in McDonald’s commercials for 21 years. A native of Brooklyn, the 4-foot, 3-inch Delfino became a professional violinist and performed in Midget Village at the Chicago World’s Fair. He first traveled as “Johnnie” to sell cigarettes for Phillip Morris, then advertised Curtiss candy. He came to California in 1949 to perform in his own local cartoon show, “Jupiter Mars From Out of the Stars,” and made his film debut in “The Court Jester” in 1956 with Danny Kaye. Delfino went on to appear in such motion pictures as “The Princess and the Magic Frog,” “Little Cigars,” “Hunter,” “The Incredible Shrinking Woman” and “Planet of the Apes.” He also appeared on television in such shows as “Bonanza,” “Laverne and Shirley” and “The Odd Couple,” and often stood in for child stars on “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” and “The Brady Bunch.” On stage, his work included many productions of “The Seven Dwarfs.” In addition to advertising McDonald’s, Delfino had recently appeared in commercials for Little Caesar’s Pizza, Sprite and Snickers.
