The latest rave figure to benefit from the current boom in electronic music is L.A. concert promoter Philip Blaine, who with partner Gary Richards (a veteran of several major-label positions and a well-known club deejay) has been given a joint venture label deal by A&M; Records Chairman Al Cafaro.

The two will set up shop on A&M;’s Hollywood lot with their yet-to-be-named label to sign and develop acts in the booming electronic realm. Blaine will also continue promoting concerts here, including his series of events at the Hollywood American Legion Hall, and is working with New York agent Gerry Gerard in putting together the Organic tour planned as a summer showcase of leading acts in the genre.

Meanwhile, another L.A. label with a big foot in techno is experimenting with Internet-only record sales. World Domination Records, co-owned by former Gang of Four and Shriekback bassist Dave Allen, is making available a CD by English techno-global band Loop Guru via a Web site (https://www.imusic.com/features/loopguru) that features both sound and, through the new Real Video technology, video clips on demand.
