Taitron Earnings Fall; Weak Market Blamed

Taitron Components Inc., a Santa Clarita maker of components, said its earnings in the fourth quarter that ended Dec. 31 fell 66% to $440,000 from $1.3 million in the fourth quarter last year.

Sales in the fourth quarter fell 19% to $7.2 million from $9.06 million in the corresponding period last year.

For all of 1996, earnings were $2.2 million, about half last year’s figure of $4.3 million, and sales were $30.1 million, down 16% from $35.9 million last year.

Market shortages in 1995 helped boost results that year. By contrast, inventories bounced back in 1996, resulting in a weaker market, the company said.
