Their losing streak is over, so now the Boston Bruins have a new objective--shake their longest winless streak in 31 years.

Bill Ranford had 42 saves and the Bruins rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period Monday night to salvage a 3-3 tie with the Washington Capitals at Landover, Md.

The tie ended Boston’s six-game losing streak--its longest since 1966--but extended the Bruins winless streak to 10 games (0-8-2). The last time Boston went this long without a point was a similar 10-game run from Nov. 26-Dec. 15, 1966.

At this point, however, the Bruins will take any sort of positive sign that their slump is near an end.

“We had to turn things around and I guess this is a start in the right direction,” Ranford said. “We battled hard and we haven’t come back too may times when we’ve been down going into the third period, so that was a big turnaround for us.”

Ted Donato and Steve Stalios had third-period goals for the Bruins, who are winless since Feb. 2.

Detroit 5, Phoenix 3--Brendan Shanahan and Darren McCarty scored two goals apiece and Chris Osgood made 39 saves as the Red Wings defeated the Coyotes at Phoenix.

Vyacheslav Kozlov also scored for the Red Wings, who opened a 4-1 lead in the first period. The Central Division teams were 2-2-1 in their regular-season matchups.

Shanahan got his 40th goal with 1:42 to go, scoring unassisted.
