Funeral Service Held for Anti-Crime Activist

Share

Hundreds of people attended funeral services Wednesday in Canoga Park for an apartment complex security director and anti-crime activist gunned down last week in an ambush in Reseda.

Pedro Roberto Banegas, 42, a Honduran immigrant and father of two, was head of security at the Parthenia Park Apartments in Northridge as well as a Neighborhood Watch block captain. He was killed Thursday after he and his wife, Ana, left night English classes at Reseda High School and walked to their truck parked nearby, police said.

Many believe his vigorous anti-crime activity may be the reason for his killing.

Banegas’ body will be returned to Honduras for a funeral at the home of his parents and burial, his sister said.
