Charter Reform

* The column by Bill Boyarsky, “More Than Just a City Hall Power Struggle” (The Spin, Feb. 16), discussed the candidacy of Tony Lucente, president of the Studio City Residents Assn., for the Charter Reform Commission, for the April 8 city election.

Lucente and other neighborhood leaders will not be backed with the $556,000 raised by Mayor Richard Riordan, or the big money raised by the Friends of the City Council, projected to be $750,000.

All Charter Reform Commission candidates in all 15 districts deserve a through evaluation by the voters. The Times should publish a special section on the candidates, letting them state in their own words why they should be elected to the commission.

Without The Times’ involvement, we will only be subjected to slick mailers and negative 30-second TV spots.
