Cultural renaissances don’t come cheap, and promoters of a new theater district in downtown Long Beach say theirs will be no exception.

But in exchange for the $300,000 needed to open its 99-seat theater, the California Repertory Company is prepared to add the donor’s name to its new venue along the city’s downtown Promenade.

Howard Burman, the troupe’s artistic producing director, said he will be making that offer tonight during a fund-raising celebration in front of the building. He said he is hoping that downtown restaurateurs will answer his request.
