Some Models Really Put ‘Go’ in Golf Carts

Share

The government is now targeting some senior citizens and their mode of transportation. New regulations being proposed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration involve golf carts.

Those driving vehicles that can’t go faster than 15 mph would be riding in “golf carts.”’

Faster models that can go between 15 and 25 mph would be considered “golf cars”--required to have headlights, turn signals, taillights, reflectors, mirrors, parking brakes, windshields, and seat belts.

Doesn’t the NHTSA have more important matters on its agenda?

Trivia time: Five former NBA players were named to the all-league team a record 10 times in their careers. Who are they?

Gooey but good: After Cleveland had defeated the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, 73-70, Dennis Rodman compared the Cavaliers’ deliberate style to his favorite wintertime breakfast cereal:

“It’s like a bowl of Cream of Wheat,” he said. “It’s real sticky, and it’s real slow. It’s just not exciting.”

Yes, Dennis, but it’s effective.

Add Bulls: Michael Jordan was limited to seven baskets in 25 shots in that game, prompting Peter Vescey of the New York Post to write:

“I haven’t seen Jordan work that hard since trying to find something positive to say about [Bull General Manager] Jerry Krause.”

No fixer-upper: If you’re house shopping and $22 million is within your budget, you might consider buying Mike Tyson’s 60-room mansion in Farmington, Conn. It’s on the market for that price.

On 17 acres, the three-story mansion has 24 baths and 14 half baths, 20 bedrooms, seven gourmet kitchens, four conference rooms, a theater, a dance club with a video wall, state-of-the-art sound system and bar, an indoor Olympic-size swimming pool, Jacuzzi, and fully equipped health club.

VVVVV: Blackie Sherrod in the Dallas Morning News: “George Foreman may not have shown much imagination in naming all five sons George, but longtime pitcher Vernon Law did. His sons: Veldon, Veryl, Vance, Vaughn, Verlin.”

Close call: Michael Ventre on MSNBC: “I guess it was just bad timing that saw Jiang Zemin replace the late Deng Xiaoping as Chinese dictator instead of the contractually bound Don Nelson.”

Trivia answer: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Elgin Baylor, Bob Cousy, Bob Pettit and Jerry West.

And finally: If you’re over 40, or even 30, and drive a Cadillac, don’t read this:

Jamal Mashburn, who was recently acquired by the Miami Heat from Dallas, had been driving a Cadillac rental before buying another car.

“I couldn’t drive a Caddy, man. I’m only 24 years old,” Mashburn told Steve Wyche of the Miami Herald. “My father rides in Cadillacs. They’re too old for me.”
