Man Fined in Sale of Obscene CD-ROMs
A West Hills man was ordered to pay $1,450 in fines and court costs after pleading no contest to selling CD-ROMs containing obscene material last fall at two computer shows at Cal State Northridge, the city attorney announced.
Jalin Chi, 36, also was sentenced to two years’ probation after he entered his plea in Los Angeles Municipal Court on Tuesday to one count of distributing obscene materials, Deputy City Atty. Deborah Sanchez said.
The charge grew out of an undercover investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Administrative Vice Division into Chi’s business, Cable Express.
Chi’s company had booths at American Mega Computer Shows on Sept. 29 and Oct. 26 at CSUN, and at that time detectives purchased copies of a CD-ROM titled “Extreme Heat” from the man.
The CD-ROM contained about 900 sexually oriented images, including sexually explicit acts of intercourse, sodomy and acts of torture, Sanchez said.
